Welcome to CEC Chapter 121 - Miami

President’s Message

As President of CEC Miami Chapter #121, your local chapter, I would like to welcome everyone to a new and exciting 2007-2008 school year. The Officers and Board of Miami Chapter #121 would like to invite you to become more active in your professional organization. I welcome you to attend our meetings and to hear about what is going on at the State level, as well as to assist us in planning our events. This year’s ESE Week (October 1 -October 6, 2007) theme is “Step Into The Spotlight.”

Our Chapter will be hosting the FCEC Conference, October 11-13, 2007, at Bahia Mar Resort and Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Boulevard, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The theme for the conference will be “Roll Out the Red Carpet: Spotlight on Success.” The keynote speakers will be Dr. Tom E.C. Smith and Dr. Jeanette Klingner. Our local Chairperson is Dr. Denise Gudwin, gudwindg@aol.com. Please contact her for any information.  This past school year, we provided Summer Camp Scholarships for 42 SPED students.

This is our annual culminating event. During ESE Week, we raised over $15,000 in T-Shirt and Polo Shirt sales that helped make this endeavor possible. Several weeks before ESE Week, we will sell our Polo and T-shirts. Help send more of our ESE students to Summer Camp by purchasing an ESE Week shirt. Look for the ESE Week Shirt Flyer in your school; our shirts sell fast so order your shirts early.

Our chapter annually hosts a dinner to award the CEC SPED Teacher of the Year, CEC Rookie Teacher of the Year, CEC Inclusion Teacher of the Year, and CEC Administer of the Year. We do this to recognize their outstanding contributions and support of our SPED students.  Nomination forms will be sent to your school.

On August 9, we recruited new members from our New Teacher Orientation. Our goal is to provide them with CEC literature and to encourage them to attend our FCEC Conference in October.  Throughout this coming school year, we are also planning to host ESE Forums in order to assist these new teachers with invaluable material, give assistance, encourage professional development in ESE and inform them of the benefits when they join CEC. Everyone is welcome to participate in these forums.

I am very proud to once again be President of our Chapter #121. We have many strong and very dedicated board members that have served on our board for numerous years. Together we have accomplished many great things over the years.

Miami Chapter #121 would like to welcome all of you to the FCEC Conference this October 11-13th, 2007. We hope to see you at the Bahia Mar Resort, located across the street from one of Florida’s most beautiful beaches. Have a wonderful new school year.

Miguel Andrés Pérez, President

CEC Miami Chapter #121
