Denise
and Magda - what a dynamic duo who hosted the End of the Year
celebration on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Airport Miami Hilton.
There were over 125 attendees who engaged in celebrating successes
during the 2006-2007 school year. Kudos to them both! |

Dr. Barbetta, Melanie,
Magda, and Denise collaboratively provided support to 89 mentoring teams
this year. The program has grown from 25 in 2002.

was selected from over 250 coaches to receive the third annual Carole
McArthur Coach of the Year Award by Special Olympics Miami-Dade County Executive

On April 21, 2007 in Louisville, Kentucky,
Evelys Ubiera,
Project GATE mentor,
represented Florida as the Council for Exceptional Children Teacher of the Year.
Evelys Ubiera opens doors for her students with
significant disabilities to high school classes
and activities, employment, and the community.

On Thursday, February 2007, Project GATE mentee
Rafael Mendiola
at Fienberg-Fisher Elementary, was recognized as
Rookie Special Education Teacher of the Year
by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), Miami
Chapter 121.
