Remember to use quality paper with your firm's letterhead, and to thoroughly proofread your proposal for punctuation, grammar, style, and format problems. You may write this proposal as a letter or as a separate document. If you write the proposal as a separate document, please compose an appropriate cover letter.

 Appropriate Headings In Your Unsolicited Proposal

 Overview

First impressions do count! You want the reader to recognize your professionalism and enthusiasm. You may want to make a few sincere remarks about the reader and/or the reader's organization, and then preview the most important portions of the proposal.

 

Objectives

This portion explains what problem your workshop will "correct." Your goal is to persuade the reader that a real problem exists and this problem "needs" to be addressed. You may find it useful to quantify the problem (statistics) in terms the reader will find relevant and/or discuss the quality of the overall problem and how it impacts the intended audience.

 

Solutions

How will your workshop correct the established "needs" you addressed in the Statement of Problem? What results can the reader expect? Are these results measurable? If so, how? This portion of your proposal answers, "What are the outcomes of your workshop? This portion also explains how and where the workshop will be conducted. In addition, you should indicate the total length of the workshop and the number of participants that may attend. What will occur during workshop? Is this workshop interactive, lecture based, or both? What "activities" are planned? Will the attendees be receiving any workbooks, handouts, or certificates?

Explain why the reader should select your firm for this workshop. How do you differ from other consulting firms? What makes you or your technique unique?

 

Fees

Indicate a total cost for the workshop. Conduct some market research and price your services competitively!

 

Summary

This is your last chance to leave a positive, lasting impression with the reader. You may want to re-establish your credentials and highlight the important points of your proposal. Once again, always demonstrate/indicate your professionalism enthusiasm for conducting the workshop. Obviously, do not overstate your credentials but specify what makes your consulting firm unique.

 

Appendix

Add any other relevant or supporting piece of information to enhance your proposal. These may include, but are not limited to, brochures, flyers, and/or materials that will be used in the workshop.
